Communities, websites, blogs, books, articles...here's your go-to for anything that helps a creator of children's books
Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators
I recommend joining the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). In addition to offering its 22,000 + members webinars, podcasts, and resources on the craft of writing for young readers, SCBWI regions around the world organize conferences, workshops, boot camps and networking events. SCBWI also has a robust promotional program for published creators. For more information about membership in the premier organization for those creating books for children and young adults, visit the website: www.scbwi.org
Children's Book Insider: an incredible resource for pre-published and published authors. Online magazine with Above the Slush submission opportunities, webinars, Picture Book Blueprint, etc.
Check out Kidlit411’s course work on picture book creation and their long list of recommended resources for picture book writers.
The Institute of Children’s Literature offers podcasts, courses and other resources of use to anyone wanting to write a successful picture book manuscript. Here's a sample post that gets an A+ in my grade book: Tough Characters to Sell and Why (my addition)
Membership in Rate Your Story allows picture book writers to get expert feedback in the form. You get a 1-to-10 rating on your manuscript and brief editorial notes from the judging panel of published authors.
