Carrie volunteers as a regional advisor for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and is a member of several literacy-focused organizations. She is the recipient of the 2019 Gwen Frostic Award from the Michigan Reading Association for her role in influencing literacy.
She lives with her family on the shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
When Carrie is not writing or presenting, she can most likely be found in the woods or on the water.
